Large goat-like animals, Himalayan Tahr were introduced into New Zealand for sport. Tahr can be found in the central Southern Alps in alpine grassland areas and are very agile. A very popular trophy hunt, the Tahr rut occurs from May until August but a good hunt can be had any time of the year.
